  • Spring (March to May) – Gangtok comes alive with blossoming flowers and comfortable weather. Ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities.

  • Summer (June) – Light showers begin, but the weather stays cool and misty. A great escape from the plains.

  • Autumn (September to November) – Crisp skies, fresh air, and post-monsoon greenery make this the best time for photography and long walks.

Monsoon (July–August) is best avoided due to landslides and unpredictable road conditions.

 Travel Tips

  • Clothing: Always carry a light woolen, even in summer. Winters need proper layering to handle the chilly evenings.

  • Permits:

    • Indian citizens need permits to visit Nathula Pass, Tsomgo Lake, and Baba Mandir. These can be arranged easily through registered tour operators like Pauhunri Holidays.

    • Foreign nationals require an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to enter Sikkim. Additionally, they are not allowed to visit certain protected areas like Nathula Pass, but can explore places like Gangtok, Rumtek, and Pelling with valid documents. The ILP can be obtained online or from Sikkim Tourism offices at major entry points like Rangpo and Melli.

  • Network: Major mobile networks like Jio, Airtel, and BSNL work fairly well in Gangtok, but may fluctuate in nearby remote areas. Wi-Fi is widely available in hotels and cafés.

  • Cash, ATMs & Payments:

    • ATMs are available in Gangtok town, but they can run dry during peak season or holidays.

    • Most shops, restaurants, and even small vendors now accept UPI payments, making digital transactions easy and convenient.

    • Still, it's wise to carry some cash, especially if you’re heading to high-altitude or remote places where network may be weak.

  • Eco-friendly travel: Plastic bags are banned across Sikkim. Carry a reusable water bottle, avoid littering, and help keep the hills clean and green.

  • Altitude caution: Stay hydrated, don’t skip meals, and rest well, especially before visiting high-altitude spots like Tsomgo or Nathula. Those prone to altitude sickness should avoid overexertion.
